Last year's runners-up, Leicester Caribbeans, beat newly-promoted Burton-on-the-Wolds by 159-runs.Caribbeans got off to a flyer, scoring 66 off eight overs. Opener Remy Durant hit 118 off 137 deliveries with one six and 17 fours in a total of 217-8.

Burton were bowled out for 58 with only opener Ross Deabill (21) reaching double figures.Azim Mahmod (3-16), Abraham Corbett (3-19) and Akeel Jarrel (4-5) did the damage.

A youthful Huncote side toppled champions Broughton Astley on the opening day of the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division campaign.Huncote fielded three 16-year-olds and one of them, Jack Smith, played a key role in the three-wicket triumph.

Broughton Astley, who were below full strength, scored 181-5 in their 45 overs, Sam Tingle hitting 79 not out. Andy Morris, one of the 16-year-olds, took a wicket, but Huncote's best bowler was new skipper Wayne Smith, who claimed 3-19 off 11 overs.

Ian Crossley (45) and Tim Kirby (37) put Huncote on the way but they then suffered a middle-order slump. George Crossley, another of the youngsters, scored 12 but the game was decided by Jack Smith, who hit a rapid 33, including six fours. Huncote reached their target with 38 balls to spare.

There was plenty of drama at Appleby Magna who beat Wigston Town by five wickets.Wigston, who were put in, lost skipper Rob Hensman to a run out in the second over and the first six batsmen scored only 21 runs between them. Russ Barker made the most of the helpful conditions, taking 6-19 from 12 overs.Andrew Jones, batting at nine; hit 35 to guide Wigston to 102 all out in the 35th over.

Appleby slipped to 38-4, but Ben Duggins, who was dropped twice before he got off the mark, cashed in to score 31 not out. Skipper Matt Richardson also dug in to help Appleby to victory in the 33rd over despite Luke Berriman's 3-35.

Woodhouse Eaves won by three wickets in an exciting battle at Twycross.Andy Scott smashed three sixes and seven fours on his way to 57 off 42 balls. And skipper Ben Machin was 50 not out as Twycross closed on 175-9. Angelo Kidd and Brett Collins both took three wickets for Woodhouse. The game was in the balance with the visitors on 119-6 but Mike Grinditch hit 50 on his debut as Woodhouse clinched victory in the 43rd over.

Birstall Village had the better of a draw with Newbold Verdon, scoring 165 for 6. Andy Galpin top scored with 67 after being dropped early on, he was supported by Julian Saye who scored a rapid 59 including 4 sixes.

In reply Newbold started well, but after the openers Gransden and Wilkinson fell, the rest of the batting faltered and Newbold hung for 148 for 9.

In the final Premier division a high scoring game between Bharat who scored 234 for 9 against Leuva Patidar who made 177 for 8 in reply.

In Division the two relegated teams Sharnford and Leicester Ivanhoe both made successful starts. Sharnford beat Hinckley, scoring 194 for 4 with Andy Durose top scoring with 75. In reply Hinckley made 91 with Shaun Jones taking 5 for 33. Leicester Ivanhoe chased down a Stoke Golding of 170 for 9 by scoring 173 for 7. The top scorer for Stoke Golding was Jim Harvey who made 60, whilst Chris Harvey scored 72.

The top scorers of the day were Great Glen who reached 258 for 6 with Bob Lee making 114. In reply a devastating spell by Richard Wilson who took 7 for 22 bowled out promoted Woodhouse Eaves 2nds for 67.Leicester Caribbeans 2nds also featured in another high scoring game reaching 246 for 6 with Umar Khan making 70 , in reply Whetstone hung on for a losing draw making 126 for 9.

Promoted Thornton St Peters won their opening game scoring 141 for 8, bowling out Anstey and Glenfield for 125. The Final game resulted in another high scoring game with Hathern Old beating S & T Westonians by 8 wickets. S & T Westonians scored 175 for 6, Hathern made 176 for 2 with Nick Mellish top scoring on 74 not out.
