Appleby Magna stun leaders Birstall Village to win by 4 wickets

Teenager Ryan Pearce had an outstanding game as Appleby Magna toppled Premier Division leaders Birstall Village.

The 16-year-old took four wickets and then hit a rapid 39 in a match-winning partnership with skipper Matt Richardson as Appleby Magna triumphed by four wickets.

Richardson put Birstall in to bat and they looked to be well placed at 143-3 when Pearce was introduced to the attack.

He took three wickets in an over, including that of top scorer Dave Sharpe for 41, and finished with 4-19 from six overs as Birstall closed on 175-8 from their 45 overs.

The game was in the balance when Appleby slipped to 88-5 in their reply.

But Pearce, who has worked his way through the junior ranks at Appleby, then joined Richardson.

He smashed three sixes and two fours in his 39 as the duo added 83.

Richardson was 44 not out as Appleby reached their target in the 42nd over.

Birstall still lead the table with a 16-point advantage over Woodhouse Eaves, who were foiled by Huncote's final pair.

Opener Brett Collins hit 115 to steer Woodhouse to 192-9 with Huncote skipper Wayne Smith taking 3-24.

Pete Kirby scored 67 in the Huncote reply but Angelo Kidd bowled a fiery spell, taking three wickets, and Smith and Andy Morris had to bat out the final couple of overs to secure a draw for Huncote on 162-9.

Bharat Sports skipper Rash Patel's bowling has been restricted by a knee injury he picked up in the first week of the season.

But he is now back to fitness and his seamers rocked Wigston Town.

The visitors chose to bat first but Patel claimed 6-47 to bowl them out for 141.

Vice-captain Dharmesh Patel, who skippered for the day, steered Bharat to a seven-wicket win with 50 not out.

He was given good support by Prasant Gore (34) as Bharat reached their target in the 30th over.

Pace bowler Imran Ashiq claimed 4-48 to set up Leicester Caribbeans' three-wicket win over Leuva Patidar.

The visitors were bowled out for 152 and Mohammad Khan hit 47 to steer Caribbeans to victory.

Dan Chapman (68) and Paul Bateman (52 not out) led Newbold Verdon to a formidable total of 221-6 after they had been put in by Twycross with Keiron Mulholland taking 3-48 for the visitors.

Seamers Luke Dyke (3-29) and Jon Healey (2-26) made early inroads into the visitors' reply before leg-spinner Mark Bird took 3-16.

Lee Taylorson was 37 not out but Twycross were all out for 111 to lose by 110 runs.

Burton-on-the-Wolds landed their second victory of the season over Broughton Astley, this time by six wickets.

Steve Tingle (50 not out) and Simon Larke (33 not out) guided Broughton Astley to 157-5 after Ross Blockley retired hurt on 33.

Burton openers Gary Moore (24) and Ali Love (39) put on 73 in 12 overs.
