Newbold Verdon reach County Cup Final.

Mon 10th August 2009

Newbold Verdon became the first team ever from the senior Cricket league to get to the County Cup Final , after beating Loughborough Town in the semi Final.

Newbold Verdon beat Loughborough Town in the County Cup semi final.

Newbold Verdon bowled out Loughborough Town for 140 and in reply made 140 for 7 , losing a wicket on the last ball of the game. Newbold won the game on losing less wickets.

In Loughborough's innings Tom Flowers top scored with 42 , supported mainly by Martyn Gidley .The pick of the Newbold bowlers was Jon Healey who took 4 for 10 off 6 overs and Huw Davies 3 for 20 .

In reply Newbold lost two early wickets , before Dan Chapman 25 and Gareth Bell who top scored with 48 , put on a good stand.

Newbold fell behind the rate a little in the last 6 overs , and needed 17 off 2 overs . Neal Bateman , Newbold Captain , swung the game in the penultimate over scoring a four , a massive six (which I think is still in orbit) and 2 and 1. This left 4 required off the last over with Martyn Gidley to bowl , 3 singles were posted off the first 4 balls , however no more runs were scored and a wicket was lost on the last ball with a stumping.

This meant Newbold won on less wickets lost.
